The Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) provides global past and present day anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants by country and on spatial grid.
EDGAR aims to inform scientists and policy makers on the evolution of the emission inventories over time for all world countries and to provide the scientific community 0.1degX0.1deg gridmaps representing the emissions sources.
EDGAR contributed to research projects with advice on emission gridmaps and timeseries.
In EDGAR v4.2 FT2010 emissions are calculated for direct greenhouse gases from 2000 to 2010 based on the energy balance statistics of IEA (2012). For each group an overview table presents the status of data available for download.
For a detailed description of the data we refer to IEA report part III.
Update of CH4 and N2O gridmaps was carried out under the FP7 project INGOS. More details can be found on edgar.jrc.ec.europa.eu/ingos/index.php
Update of SF6: sector 2F8 was corrected on 17/02/16
For each substance, emissions timeseries (2000-2010) by sector and country are provided in an overview table (.xls).
Notes:
Emission country totals are expressed in kton substance / year.
The IPCC 1996 code is used for specification of the sectors.

For each substance annual gridmaps (2000-2010) are provided.
Notes:
Emission gridmaps are expressed in ton substance / 0.1degree x 0.1degree / year for the .txt files and in kg substance /m2 /s for the .nc files.
For each sector annual gridmaps (1970-2008) are provided for all substances.
Notes:
Emission gridmaps are expressed in ton substance / 0.1degree x 0.1degree / year for annual .txt files and in kg substance /m2 /s for all the .nc files.
The IPCC 1996 code is used for specification of the sectors.
