EDGAR v6.0
EDGARv6.0 provides emissions not only for the greenhouse gases per sector and country but also for toxic pollutants such as unintentional Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs):
For the energy related sectors the activity data are primarily based on IEA data from IEA (2019) World Energy Balances, (Internet: link), All rights reserved, as modified by Joint Research Centre, European Commission, whereas the activity data for the agricultural sectors originate primarily from FAO (2020) (Internet: link). United States Geological Survey (USGS), UNFCCC and World Steel Association (worldsteel) recent statistics are also used for activity data. Additional information can be found in Muntean et al. (2022, in preparation).
Users of the data are obliged to acknowledge the source of the data with a reference to the EDGARv6.0 website (link) to Muntean et al. (2022, in preparation) and to the DOI (link).
Co-authorship and involvement of the EDGAR Team in the emission data analysis is highly appreciated. User's comments and requests can be sent via email (JRC-EDGAR@ec.europa.eu) to the authors.
For each substance, emission timeseries (1970-2018) by sector and country are provided in an overview table (.xls).
Notes: Emission country totals are expressed in kt substance / year. The IPCC 1996 and 2006 codes are used for specification of the sectors.
Annual sector-specific gridmaps (1970-2018) [and monthly sector-specific gridmaps (2018)]
Notes: Emission gridmaps are expressed in t substance / 0.1degree x 0.1degree / year for annual .txt files and in kg substance /m2 /s for all the .nc files. The IPCC 1996 and 2006 codes are used for specification of the sectors.
EDGARv6.0POPs supplies temporal profiles to be applied directly to the EDGAR annual sector specific gridmaps to grant the EDGAR users the flexibility to incorporate these monthly profiles in their models or apply these profiles to the EDGAR annual sector specific gridmaps to obtain the corresponding monthly gridmaps. The EDGAR Temporal Profiles (r2) are based on the temporal distribution profiles described in Crippa et al. (2020) for all sectors with the exception of international shipping emissions which are distributed accordingly with the work published by Jalkanen et al. (2012) and Johansson et al. (2017). No information is currently available within EDGAR to modulate the annual variability of F-gas emissions. For this reason, we recommend the user to equally distribute F-gas emissions over the months of the year applying a scaling factor of 1/12.
